Message from Robert Nowland
Photography has been a part of my life for many years. Starting with a new 35mm Pentax Spotmatic, shooting both slides and film for many years. With the introduction of digital cameras, plus daily wear and tear on my 35 mm Pentax while taking mostly work related pictures, it was time to purchase a digital 1.3 mega pixel point and shoot Olympus D-360L to make emailing images overseas a simple process.
The Olympus also stimulated my photographic interest of the amazing world that surounds us. Taking more pictures and traveling through Western Canada drove the need for a better camera. I had a Canon Pro 1 for a short while, and struggled with the cameras abitity to focus and also the larger file sizes (which are small by todays standards)causing image storage issues so it was returned. It was replaced with a Nikon 4800, and as time went on was replaced with a Panasonic Lumix FZ30. The next step would be to a 35mm DSLR as I find myself pushing the abilities of the point and shoot or pro-sumer cameras on a regular basis, or was that demanding the absolute most from it. That next step has arrived with the purchase of a Nikon D300, a 16 to 70 VR telephoto and 70 to 300 VR telephoto, the results are amazing and it seems to fit like a glove.
It is important to understand the over the years I have taken many pictures, I still maintain that it is not the equipment but the person behind that camera that makes the difference. Having good equipment allows you to produce amazing quality, but when you make a mistake it also does a great job of revealing that mistake.
