Hi Don, great stuff sir. Question, how can I see the data that you loaded into your recent gallery, like location of the visitor or the time of comments, etc? I had no clue this data was available on PB. Thanks

the subject is the important part of the photograph, the viewer does'nt want to know about focal lengths and apertures etc just is it a photo worth looking at, and yes, i must say that searching for i love cats was worth it just to see the lovely photographs of the cats on your site, well done !.(oxford england)

Hi Don,

2004 was my first real year of photography (well half year to be precise), and I can only aspire to creating the quality of images, and the attention to detail that you have on display here. It's a pleasure to browse through your work. And again thanks for sharing the harrowing images of Asia.

Warm regards,

Nick, London

I have always enjoyed your cat gallery but appreciate it even more so now that we have acquired a kitten. Someone threw him, with eyes not even opened yet, into my parents' garbage can. We hand raised him and he's now 9 weeks old and we are enjoying every minute.

Very nice stuff. I spend a lot of time in Rockford, so some of the images are familiar to me. I believe the image /photograph is the door in to it’s sole. And every image has one. Thanks for sharing.

Very good work in support of a president trying to deal with the hardest of situations, sending troops to war. It is good to see the support.

Thanks for putting this gallery together. It's nice to see someone actually stick up for Bush for a change on these forums and show Kerry for what he really is... a good man but liberal as hell.
Guest 25-Aug-2004 22:53
Don, I have perused your galleries many times and am sorry I haven't commented on your work before now. I think you've gotten a very raw deal from those who didn't have to involve themselves in politics if they didn't want to. Hang in there buddy.
Guest 25-Aug-2004 22:27
Cool, and dito. great pics.
Guest 25-Aug-2004 22:20
Thank you for your gallery on Kerry - I hope many see it and begin to think about his misdeeds and mistatements. If he has his way, medal-flinging will be the next new Olympic Sport -- and he would win the Gold.

Don:
I am happy to see that your galleries and have been restored to their proper places in the all time popular gallery lists. You have some of the best galleries on Pbase and I hope you continue to add to and create more galleries.
Melanie25-Aug-2004 15:58
Hey, what's all that about? I guess I have been away too long.
I tend to stay away (mostly) from political galleries so I don't know what's up with that. BUT I do enjoy your galleries, and to wipe out so much of your true talented photo's...
What (if anything) can I do to help? :?

Oh. Good Lord. Floral Arrays and Rhythms. What a gallery. Why haven't I found it before? I love the way you isolate a, sometimes tiny, feature of a plant or flower and let it speak. Super stuff. By the way, isn't "rhythms" a wonderful word. Seven letters and nary a vowel to be seen ;-)

It has been quite some time since I've viewed your galleries. I thought I better take another look after visiting with your wife this weekend. I really, really enjoyed your photos from the Japanese Gardens in Rockford. In fact, I loved them. You have quite an eye for this stuff. Absolutely beautiful! As always, keep up the great work. (I hope you draw my name for Christmas...my house could use some new artwork...hahaha!)
Guest 05-Apr-2004 14:56
Lots - and LOTS - of wonderful pictures! I do have one observation however --- I find that the dark type on the black backgrounds just about impossible to read. For me it distracts from an otherwise interesting site. (maybe it is just my old eyes however!)-

I agree with John. Fascinating and talented pictures, but too many, too much stuff, I’m getting lost among them, it’s a visual indigestion!
I don’t mean you have to post less pictures, if you like keeping this rhythm, you do a splendid work, but I have the impression I cannot follow it the way it would deserve…
Cheers!

I love you images, just can't seem to be able to alot enough time to view all the ones that you upload each and every day. I don't mean for you to slow down, I just need to be able to somehow, be able to look as fast as you upload. Again, Fantastic images.

Don,
I love your fish shots! Those are my favorite kind of pictures to take. I know how hard it's to capture them because:
1)They constantly move
2)Usually too dark to take them
3)If flash is used, unwanted post flash

Perhaps we can collaborate & learn from each other. Check out my pbase site & let me know what you think http://www.pbase.com/fastuno

Thanks for the inspiration.

Don,
Thanks for your comments. I've viewed your galleries often and to say the least, have been inspired and awed by the beauty, diversity and creativity you have brought out in your photographs. Simply stunning.

Warmest regards,
Rob

Don:

I am a squirrel lover and have an extended family of 6 that live in my and my neighbors' trees. I love to watch these cute little guys and I nailed a dish on the split rail fence that once in a while I will leave grapes or nuts in. A heavily pregnant 'mama' squirrel built a huge nest in one of my pine trees.

I am alternating your lovely squirrel photos and placing one a week as my computer wallpaper. Whenever I look at the cute little guy starring that week, it makes me smile. Thanks for making my workday brighter!

By the way, my ex-boyfriend hated squirrels. That's one of the reasons I dumped him.

Hi Don, Thanks a lot for you comment in my "unclassified" gallery. Means a lot coming from a bloke who's work I enjoy greatly. You have almost too much to comment on, so many gems and nice surprises!

Hi Don,

Time for me to leave a comment in the guestbook of someone who has been on my "favorite" list for quite some time! I've long admired the very diverse set of galleries that you've been building, and it's hard for me to say which is my favorite. "Photoshopping Autumn Colors", "Dripping Paint" and "Goths and Punks" have hung on my screen for a long time, but I also like "A Photographic Journey."

For some of us at Pbase, our "photographic journey" has taken us from an inital hobby status, to a bit of a lifestyle -- a way of seeing the world and sharing it with others. It's a very involving and time consuming process. The passion that you have for this activity is reflected not only in your craftsmanship, which is excellent, but also in your choice of subjects and how you treat them. Always a pleasure to visit your site -- and your world.

Though Pbase is primarily about photo sharing, I've also begun to read the forums and I am quite thankful for the effort that you have put into answering the tech related questions. I'm relatively new to the digital finish and distribution aspects of photography and I appreciate your sharing your knowledge about these aspects.

If a gallery makes me stay there for any length of time, it's probably for a reason, and has earned my vote, as many of your galleries have. It's a great feature of Pbase, but there is also a value in your galleries that goes way beyond any vote total or hit list. It's that immeasurable quality that compels me to send you a note, pick up my camera and try to do better work!

DEAR DON,

CONGRATULATION, WONDERFUL PHOTOS. I REALLY LIKE THE ONES I HAVE SEEN SO FAR. YOU HAVE INTERESTING SUBJECTS APART FROM COLOURFUL PHOTOS. I HAVE JOINED THE PBASE AND IF YOU CARE TO VISIT MY SITE I WOULD BE PLEASED TO HAVE YOUR ESTEEMED COMMENTS. THE PHOTOS WERE TAKEN DURING A HOLIDAY THIS SUMMER AND IT WAS AN EXPERIMENT BECAUSE I HAD BOUGHT THE DIGITAL CAMERA BEFORE I LEFT, SO IT WAS REALLY MY FIRST ATTEMPT.REGARDS FRIGO.

Hi Don,
I'm new to photography and have thoroughly enjoyed viewing your galleries. A willingness to share your knowledge with others and your only requirement you seems to be that they too enjoy photography is refreshing.

The question I have for you is regarding backdrops for small objects. Object sizes varying from one inch square to one foot. What kind of material should I use? A piece of black velvet or something of less texture? All shots would be done indoors under standard fluorescent or incandescent lighting. I assume there must be a few standard kind of cloths for this.

Thank you,

Jim

Dear Mr. Northup,

This is the image that I'm interested in using in my design (22076126). If you would be willing to give written permission to use this photograph then that would be wonderful - we would like to print the past-cards in the next two days. Although, we are willing to wait longer for your reply because the image is so fitting.

Please let me know either way.

Best regards,
Andrea Preston

Dear Mr. Northup,

This photograph is beautiful! This is a shot in the dark, but it is perfect for the post-cards I am designing for a friend who is just starting her own business. I was curious if you would consider giving me written permission to use this image. She will be printing a mere 500 cards. Otherwise I will be using a more generic photo that is not half as beautiful as this one.

Best regards,
Andrea

You have really found a great tool there with the photograph matted with a blurred version of itself. Well done. Would love to know what you did to acheive that.

Hi Don,
Great photos! I stumbled across this website today and enjoyed looking at your photos of Rockford. I live in Freeport, but work in Rockford, so many of your shots are familiar. I'm thinking of taking some family portraits in Anna Page park when the leaves start changing, it will be here sooner than I think! Once again, nice work.

Hi Don. Thanks for the comments about my gallery. All are flower shots. Part of my inspiration was the Hubble shots. Since I can't go "out there", I'll stay here and explore other parts of the universe – and have some fun creating my own while I'm at it. :-) – Tom

Hey I browsed your portfolio and I find it pretty interesting. I see you like digital art pretty much. This is not something very popular in the photographers' World but I think this is part of art as well as photography and I enjoy it a lot. Nice work.

Hi Don:
Thank you for your recent comments concerning my pencil portrait gallery. The tutorial or steps that I followed to achieve these looks can be found at this link: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1006&message=3842725. The only thing that I do differently, is I do not use the unsharp mask step. I set my history brush to the channel mixer step to bring some of the eyes. Hope this helps you. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me.

As for Retouch Pro...I've seen the incredible work done over there. I don't think I could restore myself out of a paper bag but on your invitation, I may take a plunge.

Thanks again.

Lisa
