Although the D-Lux 2 manual deprecates the digital zoom, I found it much better than I expected. In my rainforest gallery here is a photo of the largest lemur, Indri indri, of Madagascar that I made in the wild at full 4x optical and 4x digital zoom. I used a shoulder mount and image stabiliztion while sitting on the steeply sloped ground to obtain a JPEG image at the higher resolution that gives a usefully sharp 8.5 x 11 print.

I cannot reccomend this camera highly enough. It provides full manual control in a compact size with very good picture quality. The layout of the controls is very practical and everything 'feels' in the right place. The response time between shots is very fast, as is the focus and capture time. It is not a D2Xs of course, but then it does fit in your pocket!

This gives stunning results straight from the camera. It feels well made and has manual controls as well as taking RAW,Tiff and jpg.The body fits nicely in the hand with all the controls feeling positive. It has 16:9, 4:3 and 3:2 format and a useful macro focus.Writes to an SD quite quickly and has a brilliant 2.5 " LCD which is clear and large. The metering is pretty spot-on having matrix, centre and a useful spot. The LCD is a problem in bright sunshine and the ISO400 is noisy.I used mine for the first time recently in Berlin and took shots in a nuclear bunker at 400ISO.These shots were very noisy but cleaned up very well in Neat Image at default settings.I used the image stabiliser and found it useful but it won't correct the image if you suffer from camera shake or bad technique but then what will!Haven't used the scene settings but then have been taking photos for 25 years and used numerous Nikon cameras.Light, easy to use and I am pleased with the results.
