I´m pretty happy with my G7. It's especially great if I don't want to bring my DSLR. The metering I find to be usually spot on and much more reliable than on my KM 5D DSLR - this results in a greater number of "keepers". In Auto mode it takes OK pictures but has a tendency to use too high ISO - even though flash is used. This results in noisy images. I prefer to use P mode with ISO set between 80-200 - then images become nearly DSLR comparable. Still waiting for my G7 to come back from Canon - 7 weeks and counting! Built in flash broke while on holiday in Venezuela. Canon wanted over SKr3000 to fix it even though only 7 months old. Be warned - they said the guarantee is only valid for hardware - not software... They soon changed their tune when I spoke to our company lawyer... However, they are the ones laughing really as I still dont have my camera back!

i love my canon g7. i couldn't afford a dslr but this seems to be a good substitute for the time being. the settings are fairly easy to understand and allow greater versatility when taking pictures. i also like the fact that you can shoot high quality videos. being at gigs - the sound actually comes out perfect on the video, something which didn't happen with my ixus. i've been using a flash gun and the effect that has on my gig photography has been amazing. I've also bought a wide angle converter lens for it - just waiting for the part to fix it onto the camera - can't wait to use it!! just wish you could get a fish eye for it. http://www.pbase.com/suzyskaphotos

Great travel camera. The night shots are the best I've seen from anything that wasn't a DSLR. I just wish they'd included at 28mm instead of a 35mm lens.

The G7 is a truly remarkable photographic tool for the experienced user. I have shot up to ISO 800 with good results. Anything from ISO 80 to 400 can be called excellent and printable up to 16" X 20" in most instances. I am now never without this camera. While no absolute substitute for a Canon 5D or equivalent when the highest image quality is needed or desired, the camera does provide enough resolution, sharpness, color fidelity and flexibility to take its place in a pinch or when traveling. A well-composed and well-exposed shot with this camera could be considered gallery-worthy if the content is gallery-worthy. A great camera...and beautifully built, too.

Love this camera...you will always find it with me. Have to agree that you don't really want to go past 400 ISO though unless you want a ton of noise, 400 is getting pretty noisy itself but alright. Great movie quality for fun captures. The controls are great…and really like that you can control the flash intensity. The biggest WOW is its macro function…allows incredibly close shots. Good stuff…very happy with it.

I like this camera. For people who want to have the controls like a DSLR but not to carry bulky equipments around, I strongly suggest this one. Picture quality is good, ISO dial is surprisingly pleasant to use. The only problem I have with it is its price. Powershot G7 works with Speedlite TL300 ... Mode TV or M on G7 and Speedlite Mode "M Hi"(for indirect flash) or "M Lo"(for direct flash). Works wonderfull. A real big flash on G7 is usefull. Maybe the AWB needs to be changed manually to "Flash". See my samples soon.

Havent your heard before that what makes a good photo it's not the camera but the photographer? :-) Youre wrong. In my opinion the G7 it's a very good almost all terrain camera that produces good photos.

The skating pictures viewed full-size are pretty awful. (Not the photographer's fault.) The exif is missing (Canon now makes exif unavailable to software other then their own), but I assume the ISO was 1600. Simon Joinson's review of the G7 on dpreview.com did say "to be honest I wouldn't use ISO 1600 for anything unless it was an emergency." I guess this was an emergency... Personally, I think it would have been better for Canon's credibility to leave out an ISO1600 that's so poor in quality.

I agree with Tom S. Most of the ice skating shots look like they were taken using a webcam, and a pretty poor one at that. These photos are soo noisy, they surely cannot be Canon, let alone the G7? If this is the quality we're to expect, it's just not a good enough offering from Canon. Is it really Digic III we're at these days? How time flies! ;) Hope to see some more G7 users post there pics soon. No offence.

Canon Powershot G7 is a great little camera. Uncompromised build quality, good zoom range(35-210mm) with Image Stabilizer. Very nice user interface. Give photographer the full control of exposure, focus. Face-detection AF and AE really works. See my humble G7 gallery:http://www.pbase.com/franklin/g7

My Canon S50 gives a cleaner shot as regards the noise, but the extra MPs sure make it tempting. This is Digic II...'right? Which is "better than Digic"? Well, I don't see it to be honest. I'd rate the Pro 1 way above this for shot-quality, handling, ease of use, versatility and wide-angle (which the G7 lacks). I suppose it has some potential, but nothing ground-breaking other than those 10MPs. It begs the question "why"?
